  1. I would like to ask a question. Why are more men's beds needed in Winter? I am interested as this points to something more than mental illness in play here. I was in hospital in the winter months and we had an greater number of men admitted who slept rough, or were unable to maintain themselves safely over winter.

Surely therefore this is a social issue not an acute mental health issue. I presume these same men are still ill in the Summer months, but aren't freezing. I think if I am right (and it is an open question), that different provisions are needed for these men than taking up a bed in a very expensive bed in a psychiatric unit.

Anyone help me with this? Just interested in the reasoning.

  2. We don't know what the statistics on this are, but health and social care issues are always intertwined. Certainly inpatient care on an acute psychiatric ward may not be the best place for someone who would do better, say, living in supported accommodation.

  3. Hi Beds In The Orchard.
I cant comment about this subject as it might affect my position as an LCFT Volunteer, an appointed member of The Service User Experience Group and Expert By Experience (advising managers and staff as to my experience within LCFT during my time as an inpatient and Community service user).
I can say however that I have advised a lot of staff and managers about this campaign because it can only be healthy to debate this subject.
I have followed you with interest from early on in your campaign as I happen to know one of your team.
    Hi Claire.

    My name is Chris Balchin
